Privacy
Montana is run by one person. Write to help@montana.gg about anything on this page.
On your device
Your phone keeps a token that puts you back in your seat, your account's token if you have one, the room you are in, and your settings (sound, the house's level and pace, Squash). The app also keeps a copy of itself so it opens without a connection.
Playing as a guest
The server keeps the games you played under your guest token, with no name attached.
With an account
The name you choose, which other players see. An email address only if you add one. Your results, which is how the account screen shows your games.
We send sign-in codes and, unless you turn it off under Account › Email me about, other Montana mail. If your address is changed, a notice goes to the old one. Mail is sent through Resend, which handles it on our behalf.
Sign-in codes and limits
A sign-in code is deleted a day after it expires. To stop abuse, the server briefly keeps which addresses and IP addresses asked for codes; those records are deleted after about two days.
Server logs
Our web server logs each request with its IP address for seven days, to keep the service running and find faults. Visit counts (below) are not logged there. Signing out everywhere and deleting an account are logged with the IP address that asked.
Counting visits
We count page visits and a few taps (which button started a game, whether it finished) with GoatCounter, running on our own server. It records the page, where you came from, your browser and operating system, your screen size, and your country, worked out from your IP address. Nothing is stored on your device for it, no cookie is set, and the IP address itself is not kept.
Backups
A copy of the game server's data, and of the visit counts, is kept for seven days, so a deleted account leaves the backups within a week.
Deleting your account
Account › Delete my account removes your email and signs out every device. Your name becomes “Former player” and stays reserved so nobody can take it over. The games you played stay in the record; they cannot be unplayed.
